Brian A. Johnson is currently a Managing Director and senior equity analyst following the U.S. Autos and Auto Parts sector at Barclays, and leads the Global Autos research team.  Prior to that, Brian was at Lehman Brothers and Sanford C. Bernstein.  Since 2008, he has been ranked in Institutional Investor’s Auto and Auto Parts segment.

Brian moved to sell-side equity research after an 18-year career in management consulting, in which he was a principal at McKinsey & Co. and a partner at Accenture. In his consulting career, Brian worked on turnaround and growth strategies across several industries, with a focus on the impact of new technologies  on traditional business models. In 2004, he co-authored Mass Affluence (Harvard Business School Press), which was selected by Soundview as one of the 30 outstanding business books of the year. 

Brian earned a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University in 1981, where he was selected as the “Outstanding Senior in Engineering.”  . 

He received a J.D., magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1984, where he was a member of the Harvard Law Review.  He is a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and a retired member of the Illinois bar. He is the President of the Board of Trustees of the Winnetka-Northfield Public Library District and serves on the Governing Members Nominations and Membership Committee for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
