On Sept. 30, the United States, Mexico, and Canada reached a three-party trade agreement simply titled the “U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement”, or USMCA. This agreement, if ratified by the three nations, will replace the current NAFTA, which is nearly 25 years old. Having a modern, updated trade agreement that ensures our ability to remain globally competitive is critical to the vehicle industry.
To help members understand the impact of the new agreement, the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) will host representatives from the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) for a Members-Only USMCA Briefing on Oct. 15, 2018, at the MSU Management Education Center, Troy, Mich.
Ann Wilson, senior vice president, government affairs, MEMA, will outline the key points of the agreement and offer MEMA’s perspective on the impact to the automotive industry.
The briefing will feature Fred Fischer, director for industry affairs and Jason Bernstein, director for customs affairs for the USTR. They will provide an overview of the USMCA, review key elements of the agreement – particularly on the rules of origin for automotive goods – and address questions from suppliers.
Following the presentations, Julie A. Fream, president and CEO of the Original Equipment Suppliers Association (OESA) will moderate a Q&A session with the panel of speakers.
Questions in advance are encouraged and can be submitted by visiting www.oesa.cnf.io and selecting the USMCA Briefing link.
